Eastridge Mission center was opened on July 2nd 2012. Emc is a 4000 sq ft building located at 1300 evergreen amarillo tx. Located next to eastridge baptist church on its own city block. The facility includes the main structure, a covered picnic pavilion, a large soccer field, play gym w/slide, a sand volleyball pit, a large artifical turf play area, a greenhouse and community garden complete with 2000 gal. rain gathering system.
Features inside EMC include. A basketball court, air hockey, table tennis, Foosball and indoor volleyball. Groups of over 300 can be fed inside. There is a full kitchen and restrooms are equipped with showers.
In the church wing next to EMC there is sleeping facilities for up to 30 people.
SO WHAT HAPPENS AT EMC?
During the school year EMC opens it 3pm. Mon.-Fri. a hot meal is served to approx. 70 adults and children. After the meal anyone is allowed to "hang-out", play games, listen to christian music, do homework or read books. Guests speak any of the 26 languages from the community. They may be christian, Islamic, Buddhist or another religion. On Mon. a group holds a bible club. College groups often come by to spend time with kids making a positive impression.
During other times the director and volunteers take opportunities to share their faith. On Thurs. Mornings EMC opens to help anyone who needs assistance with paperwork for SNAP or Medicaid or Dr. Appts etc.
Throughout the year clothing distributions and outreach holiday parties are held sponsored by many churches which often are attended by 300-500 people. The director is the only paid staff.
WHAT HAPPENS DURING THE SUMMER?
During the summer EMC opens at 1pm. Meals are served daily. Usually 4 or more church groups come for a week and conduct VBS or Sports Camp. They are allowed to stay without charge at EMC. Four Sunday evenings during summer we hold SNAPP (Sunday night at picnic pavillion). This is ann evangelistic pick nice for the community. Throughout the summer volunteers work in the garden and greenhouse and crops are given to community.
SO IS EMC FUNDED?
The $43,000 yearly budget comes from contributions. The building was totally paid for by the time it opened. I'm sure you will agree this is a tremendous amount of ministry for the budget. We covet your prayers and financial support.
